FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP

Franklin Township, a small Butler County Pennsylvania community with approximately 2,620 residents and 13,655 acres of land, includes a mixture of farms, homes, and businesses and has a long, rich history.

Franklin Township was formed from Muddy Creek Township and in the beginning included Mount Chestnut and Prospect Borough. The township was named for Franklin Road which ran north and south through the municipality. Lake Arthur was created from the northern part of the township. Many residents still remember sacrificing farms and homesteads and seeing the lake reservoir fill more quickly than anticipated.

Today Franklin Township residents and businesses enjoy a quiet rural and scenic residential area with proximity to Moraine State Park, quick access to  commercial centers of the Butler area, and easy travel to all of Butler County, Pittsburgh, and western Pennsylvania.
